Mondragon Corporation to set up an industrial estate in India

September 10, 2010
The Mondragon Corporation group, with its headquarters in the Basque Country, has announced its plans to set up an industrial estate in Pune, a city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra . To date, three clients have announced their intention to set up business at the Mondragon plant: Danobat Group, that will open its production facilities in December 2011; Kide, a manufacturer of insulation panels for warehouses and industrial refrigeration units; and Fagor Industrial. Mondragon expects six or seven cooperatives from the group's automotive division to set up in these facilities, as they are studying the possibilities of setting up in the Asian country. Nonetheless, the industrial estate will also be open to non-cooperative enterprises, with the aim of providing all its benefits to local clients. The difference between the Mondragon group's Chinese and Indian plants lies in the fact that while the Asian 'giant' gears production towards both the foreign and domestic markets, the products manufactured on site in India will be destined only for that country. Plans that Mondragon Corporation has for the whole of Asia are not likely to end in China and India, as there is also interest in establishing facilities in Vietnam, a country 'with great potential and great development', which is growing at a sustained rate, driven by China and South Korea.
