DANOBATGROUP RAILWAYS equipment in the Metro of Madrid

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Pablo Cavero, talks about the daily maintenance procedure at the Madrid Metro’s 14 workshops. The workshops are equipped with several underfloor wheel lathes and equipment for detecting the state of the rolling surfaces produced and installed by DANOBATGROUP RAILWAYS. The preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance of the 2300 wagons of Madrid´s underground is done every night between 01:30 and 06:00 in the morning, when the metro is close . Due to the hard work done by 800 people day and night, and the support of DANOBATGROUP technology, quality standards are close to 100%.

“We’re here at the garage today: this is where the metro carriages are brought at night, and this is where the maintenance is done. Every night, when the Metro closes at 1.30 a.m., the metro carriages are brought here and all the preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance is carried out. At the present time, Metro has 14 garages in Madrid, practically the same number as metro lines. The Madrid Metro’s 2,300 carriages need a lot of maintenance and that’s quite a feat on the part of the 800 workers involved: they spend every night and a lot of bank holidays working here so that the metro can roll up punctually and reliably at six o’clock the following morning to take everyone else in the city to work. Right now the Metro staff consists of about 8,000 people. As I mentioned before, 10% of them, or 800 people, are maintenance workers. The people of Madrid take the Metro every morning and it runs like clockwork, with a quality rate of almost 100% - 99 point something - thanks to the maintenance work done day and night by these 800 people, and always in a very short space of time, as the Metro only closes for 4½ hours. The Madrid Metro closes at about 1:30 a.m., both at weekends and during the week. As managers, we have to use all our imagination and the best business practice to guarantee the sustainability of Madrid’s transport with the quality standards the people need, because that’s simply what they’re used to: in Madrid we’re accustomed to having the best metro service in the world.'
